The second pillar of Touch of Color is Education, with the emphasis on the education and empowerment of women. With this in mind, we set up the MJ Scholarship. Our projects in education have been mostly in India. We have on-going English classes that are offered at the Guidance Center in the village of Lasara, in Punjab, India. There have been many young girls, boys, and also mothers who are homemakers that have taken advantage of these free classes that are offered.
MJ Scholarship
We have set up a four-year bachelor’s degree scholarship program at Chitkara University in Punjab, where every year we select one female student from the village of Lasara. The selection is based on merit and financial need. Chitkara University is a well-known, reputable private university in Ropar, Punjab. It has many degree programs available in sciences and arts. At present, we have five girls who are the recipients of this scholarship. Their tuition and boarding expenses are covered by the scholarship. This has given opportunity to these girls to pursue higher education at a prestigious college and will change their lives forever, which they would not have been able to afford otherwise.
Currently, Touch of Color is providing scholarships to five (5) women.
The first candidate of the scholarship, Ms. Prabhsharanpreet Kaur, graduated with a degree in B.S. Optometry in May 2023. She is currently working at the Sankara Hospital and pursuing her masters degree program.
The second student, Ms. Manisha Lochan, in the scholarship program is now in the third year of the Optometry program at Chitkara University.
A third student for the MJ Scholarship, Kajal, was selected for the year 2022. She is pursuing B.S. degree program in Physical Therapy from Chitkara University.
The fourth student, Ms. Kamaljit Kaur, joined in July 2023, in the B.S. Optometry program. She belongs to village Lasara and is an academically strong student with a bright future ahead.
The fifth student, Jashanpreet Kaur, is also from the village of Lasara who joined Chitkara University in July 2023, as a student of B.S. Optometry. She is a promising young girl with big dreams and goals.
